Saturday, 23rd May 2026, 6.30pm, ACMI – Federation Square
Premiering as the opening film of the 62nd Golden Horse Film Festival (2025), A Foggy Tale was nominated for 11 awards and went on to top the competition, winning Best Narrative Feature (Best Film), Best Original Screenplay, Best Art Direction, and Best Makeup and Costume Design, as well as the Audience Choice Award.
Directed by Chen Yu-Hsun, this mystery-historical drama follows the story of a young Taiwanese girl who escapes her village to bring home the body of her beloved brother, who has been executed, for burial. The story is set during Taiwan’s “White Terror” era, with fog serving as a metaphor for the obscurity of truth. The film is ultimately one of hope and resilience, also celebrating the brilliance of humanity during this ruthless era.
