因為總總的時空背景因素，台灣研究與台灣相關議題在澳洲一直並不受到重視。有鑑於此，在已故前莫那什特聘教授家博(Bruce Jacobs)博士的鼓勵與支持，以及一群在澳洲從事台灣研究的學者與有心人士的共同努力下，我們在2020年5月正式成立了澳亞台灣研究協會，這是第一個在澳洲成立的台灣研究組織，並在澳洲正式登記立案為非營利慈善組織。
本協會的成立宗旨，是希望在澳亞地區：
(1)促進台灣相關的研究與教育;
(2)推廣台灣文化，語言，電影與文學;
(3)強化台灣與澳洲的交流與了解;
(4)舉辦與台灣研究相關之學術，文化與社交活動，包含台灣電影節，台灣論壇，演講與工作坊。
(5) 提供從事台灣研究的台灣與澳洲學者一個學術交流與相互支持的平台，並協助輔導從事台灣研究的年輕學者。
Taiwan studies had long been ignored in Australia and its neighbourhood countries. Under the encouragement and support from the late Professor Emeritus Bruce Jacobs,
the Australasian Taiwan Studies Association was established in May 2020 by a group of Taiwan studies researcher and people interested in Taiwan issues. It is the first Taiwan studies association registered as a charitable non-for-profit organisation under the Australian Charity and Not-for-profit Commission.
The Associations is established to
(1) advance research and teaching about Taiwan.
(2) promote Taiwan’s culture, language, film and literature.
(3) enhance mutual understanding between Australia and Taiwan.
(4) host academic, cultural and social events in Australia relating to Taiwan studies,
including Taiwan Film Festivals, Taiwan Update Forums, seminars and workshops.
(5) provide a platform for academic exchange, support and mentoring of scholars in
Taiwan studies.
